What happens in a nutrition consultation?

In nutrition consultations I work with you to develop your understanding of how to improve your health using diet, lifestyle changes and naturopathic techniques.  I provide you with an interpretation and a clear treatment plan, based on an assessment of your current health issues and the time and capacity you have for creating changes to your diet and lifestyle. Nutritional Therapists do not diagnose medical conditions and I do not usually carry out testing techniques that require samples to be sent for laboratory analysis unless you request it or we are dealing with an intractable problem.

I approach consultations as a dialogue, with the aim that you will leave each session with a simple plan of changes you intend to make, knowing why you are making them and feeling motivated and clear in the direction you are taking.

Completing a questionairre and food diary
Because nutrition is such an enormous subject and people can come to it with such differing levels of knowledge, experience and understanding I alway tailor advice, education and support to suit your needs.  This means your input is key in guiding me to where you want to start and what would be the most helpful focus for treatment recommendations. I therefore would ask you to complete a questionnaire and food diary, usually before our initial consultation.  It is helpful to both of us, as it brings into focus the health issues that are important to you to resolve and why, plus it provides us with vauable background information on your health, lifestyle and diet.  The more information you can provide, the clearer the understanding I have of your needs and the more specific my help and recommendations can be to your situation.

NLP
Where ap
propriate, I can also work with you using NLP mind/body/behaviour change techniques.  This would involve me guiding you in using your imagination to utilise imagery, sounds, words, physical sensations or physically changing positition in the room to gain different perspectives on, or create new solutions to the problem we are addressing.  This can be most useful in dealing with problems such as changing beliefs that get in the way of you reaching your goals, shifting habits you want to change, overcoming phobias and improving self image.

Supplements
I work primarily with making changes through diet using whole foods, however where supplementation is appropriate I use Cytoplan, who offer 'food state' complexed supplements.  I offer my clients
a 25% reduction off retail price + p&p.  (I purchase at a 30% reduction so I don't offer supplements to make lots of money, I simply cover my admin/time costs).  Most of the products I recommend are not unusual and you could source them via the internet or from a local chemist or health food shop if you would prefer.
